EA Gaming 01/31/2009

Electronic Arts, the videogame maker that hasn’t made any revenue for seven quarters and is flaking 10 percent of its work force, is looking to women and Nintendo Co.’s Wii to repeal its fortunes. The fitness game “EA Sports Active,” set for a May release exclusively for the Wii, will be marketed to women with a blitz “at least” as large as the annual campaign for bestseller “Madden NFL,” EA Sports president Peter Moore said.

To hone the appeal to women, Moore enlisted television host Winfrey’s personal trainer, Bob Greene, to help develop exercises for the game and serve as a spokesman. He also hired a former marketing director for Paris-based L’Oreal SA, the world’s largest cosmetics maker, and is negotiating deals with sporting goods stores to sell the game.

The nation may be short of cash, but it also needs to get into shape – at least that’s what the ELSPA Gfk-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 suggests, with Nintendo’s Wii Fit clinging on to top spot for the second week on the trot following a hike in sales of 21 per cent. It’s the first time Wii Fit has retained its place at the top of the charts, though this is the sixth time it has been the UK number one. And this week it’s not the only fitness title featuring in the top ten, with Ubisoft’s My Fitness Coach debuting in seventh position.

It’s also a good week for second placed Call of Duty: World at War succeeds in fending off the advances of EA’s Skate 2, which enters the listings in its debut week in third spot. EA claims three titles in the top five (bettered only by Nintendo’s five), with FIFA 09 in fourth and The Lord of the Rings: Conquest at number five.

The ELSPA Gfk-ChartTrack All Formats Top Ten in full (week ending January 24th):

1. Wii Fit (Nintendo)
2. Call of Duty: World at War (Activision)
3. Skate 2 (EA)
4. FIFA 09 (EA)
5. The Lord of the Rings: Conquest (EA)
6. Wii Play (Nintendo)
7. My Fitness Coach (Nintendo)
8. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo)
9. Tomb Raider: Underworld (Eidos)

Blu-Ray 01/27/2009

Everyone knows the Playstation 3 has one key thing over the Wii, a Blu-ray player. But according to a recent report, the PS3 will soon have one more thing above the others: local stereoscopic 3D gaming. It's a development that’s not terribly astonishing, but it's interesting enough that its competitors are sure to be watching.

According to Neil Schneider, the CEO of 3D tech purveyor MTBS, Sony will begin supporting their Blitz Tech 3D engine on the console in 2009. Expected to be a downloadable firmware update, the tech will permit players to advance their console to stereoscopic 3D visuals and inevitably, to Blu-ray content on 3D.

Old Timing 01/27/2009

The assortment of the old time devoted gaming is gradually dying out. While there were games out there for rest of us, the Wii and its lineup are smiling all the way to the bank. Since November of 2006, the Wii has sold 15.4 million consoles in the US alone, and if given choice you would buy Nintendo any day just as well. In the month November 2008, Four of the games made for the console were in the Top 10 best sellers.
Wii Play took No.3 with more than 796,000 units sold, Wii Fit at No. 4 with more 697,000 units sold, Mario Kart grabbing No.5 with 637,000 units sold, and near the rear was Wii Music at No. 9 with more than 297,000 sold.

You may be surprised to discover that even though it was released long ago, the Nintendo Wii is hard to get your hands on. The Nintendo Wii is in short supply in US, Canada and Britain. The Wii was released in US market on November, 19, 2006. Since then our Nintendo Wii Locator has been checking online retailers for their stock of Nintendo Wii systems every few minutes. It is a great system and exactly what the video game industry needed. Nintendo has been serving the needs of the mass market.

The Nintendo Wii has been an immensely popular game console since its release. Obviously now that the holidays are over the pressure is slightly off. It is not that Sony and Microsoft have not served a huge mass yet if you analyze more than a part of the population check for Nintendo Wii locator rather than a PS3 or Xbox360 locator. After the huge demand of Wii people started looking for all possible ways to get the Wii. All ways were taken out to add new feature to all Nintendo Wii locators. There may be a large number of stock locator sites on the internet but only a very small number of these sites monitor the retail sites directly.

Our Nintendo Wii locator has been checking online retailers for their stock of Wii. Nintendo always promises to keep up with the stock but it was before Christmas that finally Nintendo’s Chief Operating Officer, Reggie Fils-Aime admitted that the firm couldn’t stand upto the expectation of the buyers to meet Christmas demand. This news immediately flashed in all papers and finally people end up looking for stores and online Nintendo Wii locators.

Nintendo, the Japan-based maker of the popular Wii video game system, says it's not out to ruin anyone's Christmas or birthday. Repeatedly since the November 2006 launch, company officials had been increasing production. The company planned to stockpile Wiis the first summer, when demand typically ebbs. It didn't. And company officials who have seen disappointing sales before; remember GameCube? says they are in "uncharted territory" and don't know how many units would satisfy demand. A senior vice president's advice? "I don't want to say 'Stalk the UPS driver,'" he told Wired magazine, "but figure out when the shipments are arriving in the store."

Ramping up production for a global product is complicated, said Christian Nutt of the Gamasutra Web publication. "Actually, they continually increased their production over the course of the last year," he said. "I believe this Christmas there was much less of a shortage than in prior years."

Usually, this is the time of year you start thinking about starting to exercise again, just emerging from a post-holiday food hangover. The daily dose of Christmas cookies has subsided, and you are considering once again filling your plate with foods that are inherently green. And, that's not counting Nachos Navidad.
The holidays are not my healthiest season either. I tend to go on a month-long bender of party food and sweets, while rationalizing a break from any form of exercise. Here's what not to do. I can see how the Wii will be habit forming. The first night of getting to bed early after Christmas break, I tried to sneak in a little Wii bowling after the kids were asleep. My son hollered from his bed, "Who is playing the Wii? I can hear someone playing the Wii!" I've been thinking that since my holiday exercise routine was limited to walking to the fridge and Wii-related activities, perhaps we should invest in Wii Fit. This is some sort of Wii exercise program that involves yoga.

Nintendo has announced only two titles to be released in winter. These are Mario Power Tennis and Pikmin. This has annoyed the Wii owners as they expected more titles to release. On top of that, both games are re-hashed GameCube titles with new controls. This seemed to be in the books of the company to follow as said by Nintendo’s head Satoru Iwata to Multiplayer three years back. At that time, Wii was known as The Revolution.

Iwata explained that many people could not experience the titles released for Nintendo GameCube. So, with Nintendo Revolution, firstly that momentum will be build and secondly, through the backward compatibility, people who didn’t played games on Nintendo GameCube can try out some of that unique and innovative software released on Nintendo GameCube.

When it comes to video games, Nintendo is the king. This has been proved as Nintendo’s Wii Sports is the best selling video game ever; surpassing Super Mario Bros. Nintendo has sold over 40 million units of Wii Sports which also includes the bundles to help it make the best selling game.

The sale of Wii Sports is expected to reach at least 50 million. The closest rival is Super Mario Bros on the SNES and third is Pokemon on GameBoy which had a sale of 40.42 copies and 31.38 copies respectively. All the top 10 best selling video games were of Nintendo. They all included Nintendo Wii, SNES, DS and GameBoy. The only non-Nintendo games are GTA: San Andreas, which stands at number 15.
